BIO

Deborah L. Cook, MD, is a Professor in the Clinical Scholar Pathway at the Larner College of Medicine.  She is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology, and Dermatopathology.  Dr. Cook is the Director of the ACGME-accredited Dermatopathology Fellowship Program and former Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.  Her primary area of practice is dermatopathology with significant clinical, educational, and research contributions in this area. 

Dr. Cook has served on multiple national committees including the American Board of Pathology Test Development and Advisory Committee and Standing Panel for Accreditation Appeals in Dermatopathology of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.  She is an active member of the American Society of Dermatopathology with past and present membership on the Fellowship Training Directors’, Mentorship Awards, Audit, Virtual Slide Library, and Abstract Review Committees.  She is current Chair of the Dermatopathology Committee of the College of American Pathologists.

As a dedicated educator, she previously served as Director of the Connections Course at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.  During her time as Director, she developed curricula in the areas of dermatology, rheumatology, and orthopedics with transition to a primarily active learning format.  She provides extensive didactic training for trainees and is the inaugural recipient of the Allison and Matthew S. Dinehart Endowed Professorship in Dermatopathology.  She has numerous national, regional, and local presentations and peer reviewed publications.  Dr. Cook is a recipient of the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award from the Medical Alumni Association of the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

Dr. Deborah Cook’s medical practice encompasses the three pillars of clinical care, education, and research.  She works closely with her clinical colleagues to provide excellent patient care and collaborate on investigational efforts.  Her career has been, and continues to be, focused on education, mentorship, and training of the next generation of physicians.
