BIO
Dr. Nelson is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Vermont (UVM) Larner College of Medicine and serves as Section Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine for UVM Health. He is the pediatric clinical advisor to the Vermont Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Coalition (VHEPC) and leads the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program (VCHIP) initiative to enhance pediatric emergency services across EMS, emergency departments, and primary care settings statewide. His clinical and research interests focus on EMS education and emergency readiness, preparedness and response, particularly in rural environments. Dr. Nelson regularly presents on clinical topics and pediatric readiness issues at local, national, and international venues.
Awards and Achievements
- 2021 Vermont EMS for Children Champions of the Year Award. Co-recipient. Presented by the Vermont Department of Health. This award recognizes individuals that exemplify outstanding dedication and service to the contribution, development, and/or enhancement of EMS for children.
- Jan 2025: UVM Health Medical Group Educational Scholarship Award Committee and Larner College of Medicine Teaching Academy Grant. Improving Pediatric Emergency Readiness in our Rural New York Network Hospitals
