BIO

Dr. Chris Holmes is Division Chief, Hematology and Oncology and Medical Director of Cancer Clinical Programs for UVM Health.  In addition, she is the Medical Director of the Vermont Regional Hemophilia Treatment Center, a federally designated center that serves patients with bleeding disorders in the states of Vermont and Northern New York.

Dr. Holmes received her Ph.D.in Chemistry as well as her M.D. from the University of Virginia. She subsequently completed an Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Vermont. 

Dr. Holmes’ research program is focused on developing evidence-based, clinical interventions to reduce venous thrombosis and bleeding complications and improve mortality in patients with cancer. Her work has led to numerous high-impact publications and has been supported by funding from multiple sources including the American Cancer Society, Department of Defense and, most recently an R21 grant from the National Institutes of Health. She has served as the PI on several clinical trials involving patients with hematologic conditions as well as cancer.

Dr. Holmes has clinical expertise in both benign and malignant hematology.  She cares for patients with a wide spectrum of hematologic disorders including disorders of platelet function and number, thrombosis, hemostasis, myeoproliferative disease and hematologic malignancies.
