BIO
Bronwyn H. Bryant, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and named the endowed Ernest Hiram Buttles Chair in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. She is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and serves as Subspecialty Medical Director for Gynecologic Pathology and Associate Program Director for the pathology residency program. In these roles, Dr. Bryant provides regional gynecologic pathology consultation, leads clinical quality initiatives, and overseeing resident education, curriculum design, and national advances in competency-based training in pathology.
Dr. Bryant is nationally recognized for her leadership in graduate medical education and competency‑based medical education (CBME) in pathology. As Chair of the College of American Pathologists Graduate Medical Education Committee and Chair of the national Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) Working Group, she has shaped assessment standards and practice for residency training across the specialty. She has led the largest national study of EPAs in pathology, authored multiple publications on EPAs and CBME, and designed an electronic EPA assessment platform, now piloted at multiple programs. Her work is supported by the AMA ChangeMedEd Innovation Grant and two Frymoyer Scholarships, focusing on EPA validity, resident autonomy, and integrating coaching into assessment. For this work, Dr. Bryant earned the Teaching Academy’s Learner Assessment Award. She mentors faculty and trainees in curriculum design and professional growth.
Dr. Bryant’s clinical research in gynecologic pathology complements her educational scholarship and focuses on quality, value‑based care, and precision oncology. She has led practice‑changing work on endometrial sampling strategies, universal Lynch syndrome screening, sentinel lymph node ultrastaging, and gynecologic oncology care pathways aligned with national standards. Current initiatives focus on scaling EPA‑based assessment nationally in partnership with the ACGME and American Board of Pathology, defining outcome‑based competencies, and developing longitudinal learning trajectories to support independent practice and patient safety.
