The University of Vermont remains deeply committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our retirees. Guided by the feedback from retirees, UVM is updating how it provide retiree health care coverage to better reflect today’s evolving health care landscape.

Beginning January 1, 2026, UVM will transition from our group health plan to a model that allows you to choose individual coverage through the Medicare marketplace, offering personalized and cost-effective options.

UVM will continue to contribute to the cost of coverage for eligible participants. Going forward, this support will be provided through a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA). Retirees can use the HRA to help pay for their new plan’s premiums and other eligible out-of-pocket expenses.

UVM is partnering with Via Benefits, a trusted resource that will guide retirees through evaluating their options and enrolling in coverage that fits their needs.
