We are looking forward to welcoming our new students and their families as the fall semester gets underway in a few short weeks.

Beginning Wednesday, August 23, nearly 3,000 first-year students and transfers will arrive at UVM to move into residential halls in all areas of the campus. Several parking lots will be restricted and largely unavailable to faculty and staff on Wednesday and Thursday, August 23 and 24 (see details from Transportation and Parking Services below).

To relieve traffic and parking congestion on campus, we encourage remote work Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (Aug. 23 - 25) for those who can do so, consistent with the needs of their department. If you work on-site during the move-in period, please allow ample extra time for your commute. Thank you in advance to the many staff and faculty who have signed up to help welcome families and move our new students in on these days.

The following lots will be closed August 23 and 24. Vehicles parked in these lots after midnight on Wednesday, August 22, 2023, may be subject to towing at the owner's expense.

  • Jeffords, Votey, Converse, Jeanne Mance, McAuley, Mercy, Hunt, MAT (Marsh-Austin-Tupper), Harris Millis, Living and Learning, Robinson, CWP (Christie-Wright-Patterson), Davis, Wing, Simpson, and Mason

The following lots will be open for alternative parking. For information on lot locations, please use UVM's interactive campus map.

  • Green permit holders only: Given, Jeffords East Lower Lot, Waterman
  • Available to any permit (8/23 - 24 only): 12/16 Colchester Ave, Dewey Hall, Wheeler House, 70/86 S. Williams St., Jacob’s House, 439 College St., 109 S. Prospect St., 178/194 S. Prospect St., 280 East Ave., 284 East Ave., Catamount West, Trinity North (behind Delehanty Hall), Fletcher Place, Cottages, University Heights North, University Heights South, Southwick West, Southwick Street, Music Building, Blundell East, Blundell West, 322 S. Prospect St., 460/466 S. Prospect St., Church lot (available during the day only, no overnight parking)

Anyone who needs on-campus ADA-accessible parking may continue to access their regular worksite ADA spaces, including those in the closed lots.

Traffic and parking in Burlington and on the UVM campus will be congested August 23 - 25. Employees who will be coming to campus on these days are encouraged to utilize one of these alternative options in lieu of driving a personal vehicle.

  • Public transportation - All UVM faculty and staff members are entitled to ride GMT buses at no cost when presenting a current UVM ID card to the driver.
  • Carpool or vanpool - Travel with others to decrease traffic congestion. CATMA offers carpool and vanpool matching for members. See www.catmavt.org for details.
  • Bike to work - Utilize the new Bird Bikeshare program at UVM and in the surrounding communities.
  • Telecommute - If you can and wish to work from home during move-in, discuss that possibility with your supervisor.

Please contact Transportation and Parking Services with any questions regarding parking during student move-in on August 23 and 24: parking@uvm.edu or 802-656-8686.

Thanks very much for your help in easing traffic and parking on these days, and for the warm welcome I know you will give students as they begin arriving to campus soon.
