Contact FOUR

Our office provides holistic support for the entirety of UVM's undergraduate student population. We're available and delighted to assist you in exploring the vast array of research and funding opportunities, across every discipline, available to all UVM students regardless of which College you call home!

Drop-In Hours: No appointment necessary!

University Heights South, Suite 009

Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:00am-1:00pm

Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00pm-4:00pm

Drop-in times are meant for quick questions about research and fellowships. For a more in depth conversation about the resources we offer and the support we provide, please schedule an appointment!

Please keep in mind that all of the basic information you need to get started with undergraduate research can be found on our "Information for Undergraduate Researchers" page, so before you come in to the office, check out these resources and see if they help answer any questions you may have.

Fellowship Opportunities: We offer a range of fellowship opportunities for undergraduates. These fellowships can provide financial support for your studies, research, and travel. For more information, visit Fellowships.

Internal and External Opportunities: Undergraduates participate in a range of research, scholarly, and creative activities throughout their education at UVM. Please visit FOUR's informational page on internal and external opportunities, visit us during our drop-in hours, or schedule an appointment by contacting four@uvm.edu to meet with an advisor.

Advising Services

If you need personalized guidance, our advising team is here to help, but before you come in to see us, we ask that you check out our resources page.  If you have made an appointment or plan to drop-in, please also think about the following prompts and write a short informational blurb about yourself to bring in and share. This will allow us to utilize our time together as efficiently as possible!

  • Goals and Dreams: “What do I want to do with my future?”
  • Key Courses and Experiences: “Name your ‘AHA!’ moments!”
  • What Else Do You Do: “Research, Internships, Volunteer, etc.”
  • Recognize Your Assets: “Faculty to know from your classes, your advisors, your allies, your advocates, your mentors, supportive staff, etc.”

Looking for opportunities within your specific area of study? Start your investigation by contacting faculty within your major, and adjacent departments!

Example: Interested in Biology? Check out the departmental websites for Biology, Wildlife & Fisheries Biology, Animal Science, Microbiology, etc.

Example: Interested in Social Sciences? Check out the departmental websites for Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Political Science, Economics, CDAE, etc.

Please keep in mind that while we sometimes hear about labs that have open positions for undergraduates, we do not maintain any kind of database. Finding opportunities requires hard work, patience, and following up on every lead you can.  You can also look for lab position openings directly on the lab's website, check out the Student Employment Office, or see what's available on Handshake via the Career Center.

We encourage you to first explore the resources we have put together for you, and then reach out to us with any specific questions or needs you may have. Our team is committed to supporting your academic and research endeavors at UVM.
