BIO
The Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) collaborates with the University to oversee student finance matters, including federal and institutional financial aid, scholarships, student receivables, collections, loan repayment, and the Student Employment Office. Serving as a strategic partner, SFS supports university recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives for all student levels. From initial interest to graduation, SFS assists students and parents, guiding them through enrollment and supporting graduates in education loan repayment.
Marie D. Johnson is a nationally recognized leader in student financial services with over 33 years of experience at the University of Vermont (UVM), where she currently serves as Executive Director of Student Financial Services. In this role, she leads a team of 36 professionals and oversees all facets of student finance, including financial aid, billing, collections, scholarships, and loan repayment, advancing UVM’s enrollment goals and its commitment to access and affordability.
Marie is a Certified Financial Aid Administrator (FAAC®) and a ProSci Certified Change Management Leader. She is deeply engaged in national and regional professional organizations, having held numerous leadership roles across state, regional, and national associations. Her service includes membership on the NASFAA Board of Directors, participation in various task forces and committees, and mentorship in the NASFAA Diversity Leadership Program.
She is a past President of the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA), where she also served as Chair of the Multicultural and Diversity Committee and Membership Chair. Marie currently serves on the Board of the Higher Education Loan Coalition (HELC) and the Steering Committee of the Coalition of State University Aid Administrators (COSUAA), where she is Treasurer and Site Conference Coordinator.
Her contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the NASFAA Regional Leadership Award, EASFAA Distinguished Service Award, and VASFAA Outstanding Volunteer Award. She is a frequent presenter on topics such as FAFSA simplification, DEI program development, and strategic campus partnerships.
Marie holds both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration from UVM, where she was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma and Pi Alpha Alpha honor societies.
