BIO
Nicola Hawko is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UVM Doctor of Occupational Therapy program and serves as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for all OTD students. She has been an occupational therapist for over 29 years and is a Certified Low Vision Therapist. Her clinical work has primarily focused on medical settings, including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, subacute care, home health, and outpatient rehabilitation.
She has worked extensively with adults experiencing neurological conditions such as strokes, traumatic brain injuries, concussions, progressive degenerative diseases, age-related changes, and spinal cord injuries. Dr. Hawko has held leadership roles at the University of Vermont Medical Center, where she managed the occupational therapy student program and supervised both Level I and Level II students.
Her research focuses on neurological conditions, low vision impairments, and functional cognition, particularly how these factors impact participation in daily activities.
