BIO
Will Major prioritizes the academic and holistic goals and needs of students and implements student success and community-building initiatives. He coordinates and provides support for the co-coordination of special programs and events including CommuniTEA, Admitted Student Visit Days, Exploration Week, Open Houses, a new affinity group for Male-identifying UG students in changemaking professions, special programming for Transfer students and UG Spring Starts, and academic and wellness workshops. Will partners with the Director and with the Assistant Dean to provide engagements that enhance the CESS first year and sophomore year student experiences. He serves as an academic advisor to a cohort of CESS first year students (Undeclared, Art Education, Music Education as well as Internal Transfer advising).
Originally from a small town in northern Virginia, Will moved to Asheville, NC to pursue his B.A. in English and Creative Writing at Warren Wilson College. After he graduated in 2015, he drove to Alaska and back, received his E.M.T. certification, and taught college students basic carpentry skills before working with individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies.
After spending a weekend in Burlington, Will and his partner instantly decided to move to Vermont. He started off as a medical assistant advocating for a diverse patient panel while he earned his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Lesley University. Once he completed the program in 2020, Will shifted his career focus to education and supported college students with neurodiverse needs before he arrived at the College of Education and Social Services at UVM.
Will spends his free time outdoors with his wife and daughter. He enjoys running, hiking, climbing, or just sitting beside a river with a science-fiction novel.
