BIO
Matt is an experienced middle level educator who taught 6th-8th grade students for 34 years in the Burlington School District before joining the faculty at UVM. He had a long-standing relationship with the Department of Education as a field placement facilitator and student teacher mentor. His specific areas of interest are in Complex Instruction, STEM integration in the classroom, and integrating curriculum across the classroom.
Among his many accomplishments as a teacher in Burlington, Matt is a two-time recipient of UVM's Outstanding Teacher Award and a Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) State Finalist. He also facilitated a Verizon Maker Space Grant for Edmunds Middle School, and wrote an article published in Middle Grade Review.
Matt is actively involved with the Chittenden County youth running program and serves as the cross country coach at Edmunds Middle School. He is an inductee to the Vermont Runner's Hall of Fame for youth coaching.
