BIO

Dr. Lance Smith has been training and supervising clinical mental health counselors and school counselors at UVM since 2007. He is an award-winning teacher and clinical supervisor who has taught multiple counseling related courses during his 20 year career including: Counseling Theory, Counseling Skills, Supervision of Practicum, Supervision of Internship, Multicultural Counseling, Research Methods in Counseling, and Human Development.

With over 50 scholarly papers, Dr. Smith has published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of Counseling and Development and The Journal of Counseling Psychology. His research methodology encompasses quantitative, qualitative, mixed and participatory action methodologies.

Dr. Smith is a nationally certified counselor (NCC) who has worked as a professional school counselor among the Tikiamu people of Northern Alaska as a clinical mental health counselor in a community mental health clinic in upstate New York, and has an ongoing private practice here in Vermont.
