BIO

As the Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs for the College of Education and Social Services at UVM, Dr. Cynthia Reyes's responsibilities focus on ensuring the integrity and quality of undergraduate education curricular and academic affairs processes, supporting faculty progression through rank-mentoring-RPT programming, and other related tasks and initiatives. 

Her research and service passions include diversity, equity, and inclusion; family and school professional partnerships, digital literacies, and educational policy and language. Her teaching experience includes courses in Education for Cultural and Diversity (ECLD), Race and Racism in the U.S., and community-based learning. She has extensive experience in community-engaged projects especially with immigrant families. She is particularly interested in work that is generative, creative in problem-solving, and is community-based to address the needs of families and youth.

Dr. Reyes received two Fulbright Canada awards for the 2023-2024 academic year. During the fall semester, her Fulbright Research Chair position at the University of Waterloo, Ontario will engage in work with interdisciplinary scholars focusing on anti-racism and BIPOC communities. During the spring semester, she will serve as Fulbright Research Chair in Education at the University of Alberta focusing on equity in pedagogy and scholarship on the experiences of non-dominant families and communities.

Prior to her accomplished career in higher education, Reyes taught in a bilingual (Spanish/English) classroom in a Chicago Public School and also taught English as a second language in adult education. As a higher education representative, she currently serves on the Vermont Advisory Working Group for Ethnic Studies for the Vermont Agency of Education.
