Professor Declan Connolly, CESS Program Coordinator for Physical Education, and Director of the Human Performance Laboratory, will be one of several featured speakers for the Homecoming 2009 Finest Hour Lecture Series. Speaking at noon to 12:50 on Friday, October 2, in the Livak Ballroom in the Davis Center, Dr. Connolly, a nationally and internationally recognized exercise physiologist, will speak on the physical challenges associated with aging, an issue of critical concern to many today. His talk will be of interest not only to healthy and still active aging boomers, but to all those who are concerned about how to use exercise to maintain one's physical strength and independence. Dr. Connolly's timely talk, "Strength Training and the Aging 'Athlete.'" will evaluate the role of strength as we age and raise the question 'are we doing the right type of exercise to allow us to live functionally and independently' "You might walk or jog a few times a week," Dr. Connolly says, "but can you carry in your groceries from the car or chop your own firewood?" To find answers to your questions, join Dr. Connolly on Friday at noon for a stimulating look at the research of strength changes across the lifespan and how we can best exercise to allow us to live healthy, active and productive lives all the way. All are welcome to attend.
