Jennifer Green is building a sustainable city.
She currently serves as a Sustainability Officer for the City of Burlington and leads the charge on initiatives focused on securing long-term solutions for a better future. But her advocacy for sustainability does not end with her work with the City of Burlington.
Green has also participated as a community partner on multiple UVM service-learning courses, in addition to teaching her own courses on sustainable communities, environmental sociology and careers in sustainability generally. She brings her knowledge to students by providing opportunities to engage with work already being done as they prepare to enter the workforce themselves.
"I'm proud to be a part of a local government that values smart planning, is committed to long-term solutions over short term gains, and embraces the principle that all Burlingtonians, regardless of income or ethnicity, deserve the benefits of a sustainable city" she has shared.
The key to sustainability is to have structures in place that stand the test of time while leaving no harm. Green covers all of these bases by partnering with service-learning courses to share her current work with students, who in turn gain a deeper understanding of their role in building a more sustainable future.
