First-Gen Week
First-Gen Week at UVM, held annually around November 8, celebrates the resilience and achievements of first-generation college students with events like keynotes, gatherings, and activities that uplift first-gen voices.
First-Gen Graduation
The First-Gen Graduation Celebration honors the achievements of UVM’s first-generation college graduates. The event features a celebratory brunch, first-gen graduation cords, free cap and gown professional photos, and fun activities bringing together students, faculty, and family/supporters.

Semester Welcome Back Events
Each fall and spring, FirstGen@UVM hosts informal, cozy gatherings to kick off the semester, reconnect with the first-gen community, and preview upcoming events. Gatherings include seasonal treats, creative activities, and space to meet peers and staff for a warm welcome and start to the academic semesters.
Monthly Study Sessions
Once a month, FirstGen@UVM offers a supportive co-working space where first-generation students can come together to study, collaborate, and connect. Fall dates are:
- September 24th, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
- October 15th, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
- November 6th, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
- November 19th, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
- December 3rd, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Workshops
Throughout the academic year, FirstGen@UVM hosts a series of skill-building workshops designed to support students in and beyond the classroom. Topics include How to Find Off-Campus Housing, Resume Writing, Financial Literacy, hands-on Cooking Class and more. These sessions provide valuable life skills, professional development, and opportunities for students to engage campus and community resources.
Community Building Events
FirstGen@UVM hosts a range of community-building events throughout the academic year to foster connection among first-generation students. Activities include skiing, bowling and arcade nights, de-stress events, and programs with various campus partners.
