The UVM Risk and Resilience Laboratory conducts studies on relations between competence in different life areas, on the one hand, and broad domains of psychopathology, on the other. We are especially interested in studying processes of resilience in those individuals who are successful in life despite facing significant adversity.

The OWL Initiative is a collective group of scientist-explorers examining the dynamics of exclusion, prejudice, social isolation and discrimination among stigmatized groups. Our approach is multidisciplinary and translational. Currently, we are exploring aspects of visible and concealed distinctions. We are interested in distinctions and genetic anomalies, particularly those involving the face. We ask, "Why do some adults with stigmatized attributes flourish while others do not do as well?" We also explore interventions that assist adults with distinctions in order to enhance their resilience and psychological well-being.

The focus of the Sexual Health Research Clinic is women?s sexual function and dysfunction. We embrace an interdisciplinary approach that combines psychophysiology, endocrinology, cognitive and clinical outcome studies to better understand the multifaceted nature of sexuality. All studies conducted in the clinic are designed in the spirit of "translational research", meaning that we commit to study aspects of sexual health for the development and testing of treatments that we intend to disseminate in the community.
