Orange barAre you considering dropping or withdrawing from a course?

Students can withdraw from or drop a course through the myUVM portal. Action taken by the student is how we determine when a drop or withdraw becomes effective.

Please note that students who simply stop attending classes without dropping or withdrawing through their myUVM portal will remained enrolled in the course and will likely receive a failing grade on their transcript.

Financial Considerations

Dropping or withdrawing from a course(s) may have financial implications. It is the student's responsibility to understand the effects that these actions will have on your financial aid. If you are considering dropping or withdrawing from a class or classes, we highly encourage you to speak with one of our counselors at Student Financial Services.

Tuition Protection Insurance

Consider Tuition Insurance to supplement and strengthen UVM's refund policy.

Each year, many students face the difficult decision of whether to withdraw when something unexpected happens. Depending upon the time of withdrawal, many may only receive a partial refund. The GradGuard Tuition Protection Plan (www.gradguard.com/tuition/uvm) enhances our existing limited refund policy by providing financial protection if a student needs to withdraw any time during the semester due to an unexpected injury or illness.

Medical Student Tuition Refunds

Medical students who take a leave or withdraw from the COM curriculum will have their tuition charges adjusted on a pro-rated basis based on the length of the course(s) attempted as compared to the overall length of the semester. Students will be billed the full calculated amount of any attempted courses, clerkships and/or rotations if more than 1/3 of the course has been completed at the time of withdrawal.

At the time that a student leaves or withdraws from the COM curriculum, or otherwise adjusts their curricular plan, the Office of Medical Student Education will provide Student Financial Services with detailed information regarding the student's educational plan and timeline, and this information will be used in determining the amount of any tuition refund.
