What students say....

"... He is the best teacher I have had at UVM. He is always well prepared in the subject matter and makes every class interesting."

In the Philosophy department at UVM, all courses are taught by professors — none by graduate students. As far as class size goes, three-fourths of all philosophy courses (not counting the various independent studies and honors theses in which one works one-on-one with a professor) in the fall of 2010 had 36 or fewer students.

The Philosophical Gourmet Report is the most widely respected evaluation of philosophy departments around the world. Over the years, the various reports have recommended anywhere from three to seven undergraduate-only departments, but every report so far has recommended the philosophy department at UVM.
