Species Infecting Erythrocytes


Plasmodium azurophilum is actually two species with very similar morphology under the light microscope. One species infects white blood cells, the other infects erythrocytes. The full story is included in the description of P. azurophilum White. The parasites shown here are the species infecting erythrocytes. Note the lack of malaria pigment in all stages.
