SUGARBUSH/GMVS SKI CLUB TRAINING CENTER
On October 10, 1993 we opened the doors of the new training center at Mt. Ellen. It houses a private lunch area, video analysis station, a public telephone, private storage, coach’s room, and 85 lockers.
TRAINING CENTER HOURS/CLEANLINESS
The Training Center will be open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. An entry key pad is located at the lower level entry so members may enter the building after hours. It is very important for all club members to pitch in and keep the Training Center clean!
DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
It is the responsibility of the parent to make sure their child is on time at the Training Center. Coaches begin the coaching day on time. They will take one warm up run and return to the Training Center to pick up any late arrivals. After that, it is the responsibility of the child and parent to meet up with the coaching group. A daily schedule will be posted in the Training Center for each group. Please contact the coach or Training Center staff person as soon as you know that you will be late or will miss training altogether.
Coaches will return the racers to the Training Center at the end of each training day. The racers become the parents’ responsibility at that point. Contact the coach or Training Center staff person if you will not be able to meet your child.
MEALS
It is very important that every racer have a good breakfast before they begin training. It is also important that they be provided healthy snacks and lunches for the day. The racers will burn a ton of calories as they train, extra calories will also be burned as their bodies work to keep them warm in the cold winter temperatures.
LOST RACER
If a child becomes separated from his/her group for any reason, the child should head immediately to the Training Center to wait for his/her group to return. The coach will make every effort to locate the child and insure his/her safety, but the procedure for the separated child is to proceed immediately to the Training Center.
LOCKERS
Lockers are available for rent to all Club members on a first come, first serve basis. Call or write to reserve yours.
TUNING BENCHES
Tuning Benches for all members use are located in the lower level of the Training Center. Again, everyone’s cooperation is needed to keep the area clean. PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF AND BE CONSIDERATE.
LOST AND FOUND/EQUIPMENT SWAP BULLETIN BOARD
A lost and found box is located on the upper level of the Training Center. A bulletin board for members to list items for sale, swap or trade is located on the lower level of the Training Center. PARENTS – PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD’S CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT IS LABELED WITH THEIR NAMES, many children have the same skis, poles etc. and items can be easily mixed up.
MEMBERSHIP DUTIES: Race & Training Center
RACE DUTY
It is important that each member of the Club pitch in. We require that each family work at least three race days (if both parents work one race it counts as two work days). There will be a meeting, a “how-to” clinic, and sign-up day in December. You will be surprised at how easy race duty is. Families that fail to work three race duty days will not be refunded their $100 race deposit.
The following are the Race duties that need to be filled by the Club members
- Registration
At least three (3) people are needed to help early morning with registration. After registration they assist the Race Secretary with results and bib collecting until after the awards ceremony. - Scoreboard
One (1) or two (2) people are needed to fill in the score sheet, get it to the scoreboard area and write down times during the race. - Gatekeepers
A minimum of fifteen (15) for every race. This is our most important job. Gave keeping involves standing on the side of the course during the race runs and making sure each racer goes through the gate and that the gates are secure. One head gatekeeper will be needed each race to organize and collect cards. Gate keeping takes no special training but requires a lot of heart! Parents without ski passes will be given day tickets to access the hill. - Assistant Timers
Two (2) people are needed to assist the Race Secretary with back up hand timing. - Course Maintenance
Three (3) people are needed to assist coaches with course maintenance (shoveling, replace gates or fencing, rake, etc.)
A pre-season Clinic for parents is scheduled to acquaint you with what goes on during a race. If you have any questions please contact Adam Julius.
TRAINING CENTER CLEAN UP
Again this year families may clean the Training Center at the end of the day for credit toward their three race duty days. Two clean-ups equal one race duty day. Clean-up involves vacuuming, taking out trash, wiping down tables, and sweeping floors on the lower level. Clean-up usually takes about 1.5 hours. Sign up sheet is located in the Training Center.
