Sugarbush Ski Club is part of GMVS which stands for Green Mountain Valley School

PROGRAMS

Our junior programs are for youngsters 7-18 years old. All our programs follow a basic skiing/racing progression while keeping the emphasis on FUN. Coaches utilize the US Ski Teams BASE (Basic Alpine Skills Evaluation) skiing program with a mixture of drills, exercises, free skiing and gate training to help our young racers improve and reach their goals.

COACHING STAFF

The bulk of our coaching staff has been with the program for more than five years. Head Coach Adam Julius leads the team of coaches who are committed to creating a positive learning atmosphere in which our athletes can have fun and pursue their dreams of glory. Adam has been the head coach of the club for nine years. He is also the head J3 coach at GMVS and is a USSCA Level 3 certified coach. Adam has coached with the US Ski Team at the Topolino World J3 Championship and the Whistler Cup J3 World Championships. Adam is committed to the success of the Sugarbush/GMVS Ski Club. His dedication to our club and personal expertise in coaching has helped our club become one of the best in the U.S.J-5/6 PROGRAM

 

J5/J6 PROGRAM

Ages 7-10 (born 1993-1996)

The J5/J6 program is set up to teach basic skiing skills and to introduce ski racing to the young athlete. Groups are small and the emphasis is placed on free skiing over the entire TWO Mountains while practicing balance, edging, and body position and having FUN! Participants should be able to put on their own ski equipment, load and ride the lift alone, and ski at an intermediate level.

Training is every weekend starting December 13, 2003 with holiday camps held during Christmas and February breaks. Training sessions are 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Participants race in club and Northern VT Council races.

All J5/6 participants must be members of VARA (Vermont Alpine Racing Association) and USSA (United States Ski Association). Application may be found at the ski club or at www.vara.org or www.usskiteam.com.

J4 PROGRAM

Ages 11-12 (born 1991-1992)

The J4 Program introduces ski racing technique and tactics while continuing to develop basic technical skills. Groups split their time between all-mountain skiing, drills, and gate training. At this level the skier will discover and develop individual skiing and racing styles.

Training is every weekend starting December 6, 2003 with holiday camps held during Christmas and February breaks. Training sessions start at 8:30 AM and end at 2:30 PM. Participants will race club, Northern VT council and state races.

All J4 participants must be members of VARA (Vermont Alpine Racing Association) and USSA (United States Ski Association). Application may be found at the ski club or at www.vara.org or www.usskiteam.com.

J3 PROGRAM

Ages 13-14 (born 1989-1990)

The J3 Program involves free skiing and racers will follow a technical development progression working on balance, edging and body position. At this level the emphasis is on the technical and tactical aspects of the ski racing. Groups split their time between all-mountain skiing, technical drills, gate training, goal setting, speed event skiing (SG), and always having FUN!

Training is every weekend starting November 29, 2003 with holiday camps held during Christmas and February breaks. Training sessions begin at 8:30 AM and end at 3:00 PM. Racing is done in the Northern VT Council, the state level (VT State Championships), and at the regional level (J3 Olympics). Racers must qualify for state and regional races.

All J3 participants must be members of VARA (Vermont Alpine Racing Association) and USSA (United States Ski Association). Application may be found at the ski club or at www.vara.org or www.usskiteam.com.

J1/J2 PROGRAM

Ages 15-18 (born 1985-1988)

The J1/J2 program is targeted for the racer who would like to continue to pursue his/her racing goals at the USSA level. Early season training will be intense in order to prepare participants to begin racing in late December. The head coach will plan out an individual racing schedule for each racer with the athlete and his/her parents.

Training will start November 29, 2003 with holiday camps held during Christmas and February breaks. Training sessions begin at 8:30 AM and end at 3:00 PM. Racing is done in the Northern VT Council, the state level (VT State Championships) and the regional and national level.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

Ages 15-18 (born 1985-1988)

The High School Program is targeted towards the high school age racer who loves to ski race but does not have the time to commit to USSA racing. They may be on their High School team or just interested in improving their racing technique and tactics.

Training will begin December 14, 2003 and runs every Sunday through March 14, 2004. Training sessions will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 3:00 PM. Racing is done at the High School Varsity and Junior Varsity level.

HIGH SCHOOL PRE-SEASON PROGRAM

Ages 15-18 (Born 1985-1988)

This program is for the high school aged athlete who wants to get some early season coaching and gate training, but does not have the time to commit to the full high school program.

Training begins November 29, 2003 and ends January 4, 2003

Training sessions will begin at 9:00am and end at 2:00pm
