The following message was sent by Board of Trustees Chair Cynthia Barnhart to the UVM community on Tuesday, April 8

Dear UVM Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I offer our warm congratulations to Patricia Prelock on her selection as provost at the University of Arizona and our sincere thanks for her 30 years of distinguished service to the University of Vermont.

As provost here at UVM, Patty helped lead the university to several historic achievements and forged important relationships with students, staff, faculty, and supporters of the university. The trustees were especially thankful for her work to help guide the university through the difficulties of the pandemic. We are pleased and grateful that she stepped forward to lead UVM as interim president with grace and wisdom over the past six months.

Patty has been an invaluable and dedicated leader at UVM, and we appreciate that her move to this next phase of her career has been informed by a combination of professional and personal considerations including her family in Arizona. The chance to spend more time with her grandchildren there was clearly a significant factor in her decision to accept this new position.

We wish Patty great success in her new leadership role working with President Suresh Garimella at Arizona beginning on May 19. The university will be in capable hands up through that date and beyond.

Sincerely,

Cynthia Barnhart
Chair, UVM Board of Trustees
