Following a national search, Molly Propst has been appointed UVM’s next Chief Human Resources Officer, bringing to the university over 20 years’ experience in academic medicine, complex healthcare systems, and public-sector organizations.

Propst comes to UVM from York Hospital in York, Maine, where she is Interim Chief Human Resources Officer. Previously, she was Chief Human Resources Officer for Jefferson Healthcare, a critical access hospital in Port Townsend, Washington. Prior to that Propst spent nearly 15 years in human resources, ultimately as Chief Human Resources Officer, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Mississippi’s only academic medical center—a system of seven hospitals, with over 10,000 employees and a major medical research enterprise.

“I am delighted to welcome Molly Propst to UVM as our next Chief Human Resources Officer,” said Alicia Estey, Vice President for Finance, Administration and Human Resources. “Molly brings the strategic vision, collaborative leadership, and deep HR expertise needed to help UVM support and engage our faculty and staff in meaningful ways. She understands that people are central to the university’s mission, and I am confident she will be an exceptional partner as we continue building a workplace where employees can do their best work.”

Propst earned her B.A. in psychology and music from Colver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., an M.S. in psychology from Illinois State University, and has furthered her learning through doctorate-level work in human resources management and organizational behavior at the University of Washington. She is a frequent national and regional speaker on employee engagement and workforce planning and strategy.

“I feel so privileged to join the University of Vermont, an institution with a proud and long-standing tradition of academic excellence and shared values that resonate deeply with me,” said Propst. “In this leadership role, I will bring a collaborative approach to human resources—listening to the valued members of our workforce and serving as a strategic partner to university leaders to develop and implement creative, forward-thinking solutions. Together with my Human Resources colleagues, we will strive to deliver unparalleled service with the highest levels of efficiency while fostering a workplace where our shared work is meaningful, fulfilling, and enjoyable.”

Propst is a proud mother of two who leads an active and creative life. She is an animal lover, especially devoted to her rescued 10-year-old Great Dane, a longtime running companion. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending time outdoors—kayaking, snow skiing, swimming, and playing pickleball. As a lifelong musician, she finds joy in playing the piano and singing. She looks forward to becoming part of the greater Burlington community and building the meaningful connections she values so deeply.

Propst will officially join UVM on Tuesday, May 26.

The university is grateful to the members of the CHRO search committee for their thoughtful and dedicated work throughout the national search process and extends sincere appreciation to Lindsey Melo for her leadership and service as interim Chief Human Resources Officer.
