Junior Courtnay Pilypaitis, the MVP of the 2009 America East Women's Basketball Championship, posted her second straight double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Vermont Catamounts past the Boston University Terriers, 74-66, in the championship game of the conference tournament. Teammate May Kotsopoulos added 21 points and joined Pilypaitis on the all-tournament team.
Vermont wins its first America East Championship since 2000 and fifth overall. The Catamounts will also make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2000 as the league champion earns the league's automatic berth to the tournament.
The Catamounts improve to 21-11 overall and have won 11 of their last 12. Vermont avenged losses to both Boston U and Hartford during their tournament run to the championship. Both teams had swept the regular season series from the Catamounts.
