For the fourth year, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity will host its signature philanthropy event, "Sleep Out for the Soldiers." Once again, the brothers of UVM’s Alpha Lambda chapter will brave the cold Vermont night in an effort to raise money for the Kappa Sigma Military Heroes fund, which directly supports the Fisher House Foundation. To reach its fundraising goal of $10,000, the chapter invites donations online as well as in person, from 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at the George P. Cunavelis Chapter House, 368 Main St., Burlington.
Join the fraternity at the event for a cup of hot chocolate, refreshments, music and family fun. A raffle for prizes including Yankees tickets, Red Sox tickets, and various gift cards will take place both days. “Voluntary toll booths” will be set up from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 24 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25.
The Kappa Sigma Military Heroes Campaign, in conjunction with the Fisher House Foundation, sets up lodging for the families of wounded soldiers who return from various assignments both domestically and abroad. In the past two years, the Alpha Lambda chapter of Kappa Sigma has raised more than $7,500 for this cause, and nationally, the Kappa Sigma fraternity has raised more than $450,000 for the Fisher House Foundation.
