The Challenge
Vermont has set ambitious goals to create an economy that can more effectively meet our climate challenges. But to achieve those goals, we will need thousands more workers with the skills to electrify our transportation sector, install clean energy solutions, weatherize homes, build net zero commercial buildings, and sustainably manage our working lands, forests and waterways. How can Vermont scale up the climate workforce to meet this growing demand?
The Proposed Solution
Project partners are launching a Climate Jobs Campaign to better inform workers about the opportunities present in these emerging careers, and to help potential employers recruit and retain such workers. The campaign will leverage the project partners’ skills in market research and outreach activities to ensure that the campaign reaches the full range of potential workers. The plan will specifically focus on expanding the climate workforce by making career pathways visible to people who may not otherwise be aware of these opportunities.
The result: More Vermont residents will know about promising career opportunities and will be better supported in finding training and resources to access these promising, and much needed, career pathways.
The Partnership
This project unites the Public Communication Program in UVM’s Department of Community Development and Applied Economics with Vermont's Energy Action Network and their Climate Workforce Coalition. The campaign also builds on existing resources within UVM and the state of Vermont including UVM Professional and Continuing Education (PACE), Advance Vermont’s MyFutureVT, and Efficiency Vermont’s Efficiency Excellence Network.
