The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs provides the following trainings and workshops each year:

New Faculty Orientation

Annual two-day event held at the beginning of each academic year, providing a broad orientation to the role of faculty members at the University of Vermont, including opportunities and expectations for faculty teaching, research, and service at UVM. Held in August.

Academic Leadership Series

Information for new Department Chairs and Associate Deans serving in this capacity for the first time. Round table discussions/workshops held throughout the academic year on topics of interest to Department Chairs, Associate Deans, and other faculty administrators. Topics include: chronology and procedures for important annual processes handled at the chair/unit level, relevant provisions in UVM’s faculty governance documents (including the Collective Bargaining Agreements, COM Faculty Handbook, and University Manual), information on legal and institutional requirements of academic supervisors, departmental leadership issues, compliance requirements, guidelines for RPT and sabbatical applications, availability of resources for handling issues that may arise in this role, and similar topics.

Faculty Development Series

The Campus-wide Faculty Conference marks the beginning of the academic year. Held annually the Monday before the beginning of the Fall semester, this event serves the dual purpose of welcoming the new faculty and launching the Faculty Development Series, a year-long program designed to assist faculty in acquiring the knowledge and skills to succeed as 21st century educators and maintain excellence in research and scholarly activities.

RPT Workshops

Panel presentations by faculty experienced in the various facets of the reappointment, promotion, and tenure process at UVM. Held in March.
