Colony Health Information and Reports
Sentinel-free soiled bedding monitoring and exposure method
Sentinel-free soiled bedding testing at UVM occurs at quarterly intervals.
Sentinel-free test media are placed within an individually ventilated cage on every rack (up to 80 cages per media) and are exposed to soiled bedding from 100% of the colony cages with every cage change (every one or two weeks).
Testing Profile
All colony rooms and racks are tested quarterly for viruses, bacteria, and parasites of concern using PCR. Colonies are tested annually using a more extensive profile for viruses, bacteria and ectoparasites. Mouse norovirus (MNV) and Helicobacter are not excluded from most of our rodent rooms.
