FAQs
Q1: Why do I have to pay to have my phone "moved" to another room?
A1: We need to ensure that our e911 information is accurate to comply with state and federal requirements for 911. Our emergency responders look to this data first to understand where a call is coming from. Network Services ensures that the phone number is assigned to the correct campus location. Additionally, those who use Jabber should be sure they are updating their location as identified by their Jabber client (Profile settings -> Location.)
Q2: How do I know if I will incur a charge when I ask for a change?
A2: Please look at our rate sheet above and if you still have questions, please reach out Contact Us | Network Services | The University of Vermont.
Q3: My internet connection is terrible. Can I pay to have it improved?
A3: We are working on a campus-wide plan to address connectivity. Our first focus has been on expanding wireless capabilities in academic general-purpose classroom buildings. We have projects underway to continue that effort. Additionally, we are looking at campus buildings that need wiring updates and what options we have to provide better connectivity in those spaces. We are also working on expanding our campus connectivity capacity to the internet. With all of this effort, we are working on making a priority list of spaces and needs where we can make an improvement that will be beneficial to the widest audience.
Q4: Why do I still get a VeraSmart report every month?
A4: Even though you may not be getting a monthly telephone bill, we want to ensure you have insight as to what you have requested for phone service and any on-time fees that you incurred that month. Please alert us if you no longer need a phone number or if the number has been reassigned to a new staff member.
Q5: I’m not from a typical UVM department, do I or my business manager still have to pay for phone service?
A5: Most charges outside of those noted in the rate sheet above are no longer going to be billed out by Network Services. There are exceptions to this process. University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) group will continue to work with Network Services on projects and decisions that are specific to student housing. Business tenants on campus will continue to be billed separately as they have in the past.
