Paul Meddaugh, M.S. is a full-time Public Health Analyst with the Vermont Department of Health, where he works as an applied epidemiologist, principally performing epidemiology, surveillance, and evaluation activities for the state heart disease and diabetes prevention programs to aid in situational awareness of disease and associated risk factor prevalence, targeting of public health interventions, and evaluation of public health programs aimed at preventing and managing chronic disease.
Paul has taught part-time in the UVM public health program since 2023, teaching and supporting program improvement. Previously, Paul worked as a clinical epidemiologist for the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center’s EpiData Center for 5 years, beginning his time there as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Fellow. Prior to that, he was an infection preventionist at a small community hospital in New York for about a year. Paul’s passion for epidemiology began at Binghamton University, State University of New York’s (SUNY) Biomedical Anthropology program, where he focused on studying the human-disease interaction and further gained an appreciation for public service as part of Southern New Hampshire University’s public administration graduate certificate program.
Paul is a native of the New York Catskills who has lived in Vermont for over 8 years and enjoys being outdoors on the water, hiking, or skiing just as much as museums and historical sites.
