Dr. Nelms is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. He specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. His professional work focuses primarily on the specialized clinical care of patients with hip and knee problems. He is a strong advocate of thoughtful and careful innovation, having introduced and organized adoption of several significant advances including the anterior approach to hip replacement and the widespread use of robotic assistance for knee surgery at UVM. He also teaches resident physicians and medical students. Dr. Nelms serves on several committees both locally to nationally. He has a strong interest in research in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty with multiple publications and ongoing projects that span a wide breadth of the field.
