BIO
Dr. Tracy L. Smith is a Faculty Scientist and Protocol Writer in the Department of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Vermont Cancer Center (UVMCC). Her work focuses on the development and regulatory management of investigator-initiated clinical trials aimed at improving cancer care and advancing translational research. In this role, Dr. Smith collaborates closely with clinical investigators to design, write, and refine IRB-ready protocol documents and regulatory submissions. She also supports pre-activation activities such as clinical trial budgeting, coverage analysis, FDA IND applications, and feasibility planning.
Prior to joining UVMCC, Dr. Smith completed postdoctoral training in vascular and molecular biology at Northwestern University, Université de Montréal, and The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto. Her research explored endothelial signaling pathways involved in angiogenesis and inflammation, contributing to a deeper understanding of vascular dysfunction in disease.
Dr. Smith holds a PhD in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto and has authored several peer-reviewed publications in vascular biology, inflammation, and nutrition science. She currently serves as co-chair of UVMCC’s Research Activation and Evaluation (RAE) Committee and coordinates the Cancer Center’s IIT Incubator program. She is also a member of the OnCore Steering Committee, supporting system optimization and data integrity across the clinical trials enterprise. Dr. Smith brings a unique combination of scientific depth and regulatory expertise to her work in cancer clinical research.
Dr. Smith's postdoctoral training
- Vascular Biology – Northwestern University (2020–2021)
- Vascular Biology – Université de Montréal (2019–2020)
- Molecular Biology – SickKids Hospital, Toronto (2018)
Awards and Achievements
- American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021)
