MedPageToday featured an excerpt from Physicians With Lived Experience: How Their Stories Offer Clinical Guidance (APA Publishing, 2025), by Michael F. Myers, M.D., a professor of clinical psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York, in which Dr. Myers interviewed Larner alum Christopher Veal, M.D.’21, about “breaking the silence” surrounding mental health and racism in medical school. This was a follow-up to Dr. Veal’s previous commentaries on his struggles with mental health as a Black medical student battling depression.
Veal is now a family medicine physician in New Zealand.
