Pamela C. Gibson, MD, is a Professor on the Clinical Scholar Pathway at the Larner College of Medicine (LCOM) at the University of Vermont. She has held numerous roles during her 30 years in the department, including as Vice Chair for Culture & Inclusion and Division Chief of Anatomic Pathology. She has served on LCOM committees including the Medical Curriculum Committee and Advancement Committee and numerous departmental and hospital committees as well as national committees including the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC) Government Affairs and Economic Policy Committee, also serving as the ASC Specialty Advisor to the American Medical Association Relative Value Scale Update Committee (AMA RUC). Dr. Gibson is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as Cytopathology. Her clinical practice include medical renal pathology, head and neck pathology, cytopathology and autopsy pathology. Dr. Gibson is actively engaged in educating our medical students and residents in medical renal pathology and cytopathology. She also serves as the faculty advisor to the Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) medical student group at LCOM and serves as a leader in our departmental career outreach initiative with local high schools.
Dr. Gibson is a Distinguish Educator in the Teaching Academy at the Robert Larner M.D., College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and past recipient of The Buttles Professorship of Pathology for excellence and commitment in pathology education. In 2026, she received the Frederick C. Morin III, MD Educational Leadership Award from the LCOM Teaching Academy, recognizing her long-term educational service leadership at our institution. Medical Students annually recognize Dr. Gibson for her commitment in the Vermont Integrated Curriculum (VIC) with teaching nominations/awards. Dr. Gibson understands the importance of career outreach to expand the workforce in pathology and laboratory medicine. She continues to share career opportunities in the laboratory with high school and middle school students through our Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Career Outreach Sessions, a collaborative effort with colleagues in the department and across departments. Her commitment to education goes well beyond the classroom, with recognized efforts both regionally and nationally to provide educational sessions and educational scholarship for professional coders, pathologists, histotechnologists, and cytotechnologists related to compliance, renal pathology, medical education and intercultural excellence.
Dr. Gibson remains committed to our patients, community and institutions through her continued clinical service, committee service and providing education to learners at many levels. She is actively engaged with a team of national and international medical education scholars producing scholarship related to the best practices in health career outreach.
