UVM Wireless Manual Profile Creation

This guide was created to be used in circumstances where the usual process of connecting to UVM wireless on a Windows 10 PC does not work.

If you continually receive errors of “Unable to connect” or “Invalid Credentials” please first verify that you can login to other UVM services using your NetID and password – don’t use saved passwords, make sure that you are typing it out.

If you’ve confirmed that your password is working, you can use the steps below to create a UVM wireless profile that should tell your computer which settings are needed to connect to the wireless network on campus.

  1. Start by removing any existing UVM wireless profile from your computer by Forgetting the Network
  2. Search for the Settings app using the search box in the lower left corner of the Windows taskbar. Click to open the Settings app.
  3. Select Wi-Fi from the left column menu, then click Manage known networks
  4. Select Add a new network
  5. Enter the settings as described below:
    • Network Name = UVM
    • Security type = WPA2-Enterprise AES
    • EAP method = Protected EAP (PEAP)
    • Authentication method = Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
    • Make sure that Connect automatically is Checked
    • Click the Save button
  6. Try reconnecting to the UVM wireless network, when prompted, enter your NetID and password.
