As we move through Open Enrollment, we want to keep you informed and supported. Below are this week’s key updates and reminders. You can always find these details—and more!—on the Transitioning to Medicare Marketplace page of the retiree website.
Weekly highlights
Enrollment update. As of Wednesday, November 19, 72% of retirees and their dependents have successfully enrolled in plans. If you have yet to enroll, please visit my.viabenefits.com/uvm or call 1-833-858-4990 to make an appointment.
Prescription drug transfers. Unlike previous transitions, open prescriptions will not automatically transfer to your new prescription drug plan. Please read this short message for steps you can take to avoid disruptions.
HRAs can’t be set up until January. Your new coverage must be active before you can set up your HRA or use the Via Benefits app. What to expect: Starting in mid-December, individuals who have completed enrollment for 2026 coverage will receive an HRA reimbursement packet in the mail, including step-by-step instructions and claim submission details.
Call waiting times. While most callers reach Via Benefits quickly, we know that hasn’t been everyone’s experience. Here’s what we’re seeing:
When calling from the phone number UVM has on file for you, about 66% of callers connect in under a minute, and 88% within five minutes.
When calling from the phone number UVM has on file for you, only 1% have experienced waits over an hour, and this most often occurred during peak times like the beginning days of Open Enrollment or on Mondays.
Pro Tip: Longer waits often occur if Via’s system doesn’t recognize your phone number.Call from the number UVM has on file for you. It helps Via identify you and move your call to the front of the line.
Scheduling an appointment is still the best way to limit your wait time. Many appointments are available with Via Benefits Advisors, and it is important to complete your enrollment by phone or online as soon as possible.
Help us keep these updates useful. Your questions and feedback shape the content we share in these digests and in our FAQs. If you’d like to share your experiences or submit non-urgent questions, please use our feedback form. If you request a response, we’ll follow up within five business days.
No digest next week. The Human Resources office will be closed from 12 PM Wednesday, November 26, through Friday, November 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. If anything urgent arises, we will be sure to notify you via email immediately.
Thank you for staying engaged during this transition. We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work to make this process as smooth as possible.
Wishing you a safe and happy Thanksgiving,
The UVM Benefits Team
