Project Overview
This research is a partnership between the VT Forests, Parks and Recreation Forest Legacy Program and the UVM Field Naturalist Program to evaluate the relationship between sugaring and wildlife. A geospatial assessment explored how forests within parcels that sugar as indicated by the Use Value Appraisal dataset overlapped with Vermont Conservation Design and Omniscape wildlife movement layers, as well as what the topography, geology, soils, and vegetation are within these forests that provide potential habitat for Vermont's wildlife. A field assessment explored diversity of forest structural and species composition from 20 sugarbushes across Vermont and assessed tubing placement in relation to wildlife detection from audio devices and trail cameras.
