The methods followed in the creation of the dataset, including description of field, laboratory and processing steps, and quality control procedures

Current Methods

  • Sample site establishment

    Four sites were established for vegetation sampling so that each site may be accurately relocoated for re-study in future years for comparative purposes. Each sample site (20x30m) is subdivided into a 10x10 grid of 100 intersections, spaced 2x3m apart. A random number array determined the x, y coordinates of grid intersections to be sampled. Frequency and cover data were gathered in addition to general observations.

  • Laser theodolite
    Started: 1991-06-01

    Laser theodolite (Nikeon DTM-5 Total Survey Stystem) to survey each quadrat.

  • Site Description

    West slope of Mt. Mansfield above 2500 feet. Sites at Thunderbolt Gap, West Chin Top, West Chin Low and Summit Saddle.
