The Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club and the Caledonia Sharp Shooters 4-H Club hosted the event on July 17-19 at the Caledonia Forest & Stream Club. They welcomed over 100 youth ages 8–18 to compete in archery, hunting skills, muzzleloader (Seneca Run), pistol, rifle, and shotgun.
Unlike many shooting competitions, the Vermont 4-H Shooting Sports Jamboree emphasizes more than scores. Through the safe and responsible use of archery equipment and firearms, youth develop discipline, focus, decision-making skills, confidence, leadership, and respect for others. Certified volunteer instructors devote countless hours throughout the year teaching safe firearm handling, wildlife conservation, ethical decision-making, and good sportsmanship.
The 2026 Jamboree weekend began with instructional sessions and practice opportunities, allowing participants to learn from certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructors and even try disciplines not offered through their home clubs. The middle day featured competition across all six disciplines. The final day concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding achievements, leadership, and sportsmanship.

One of the weekend's most meaningful honors, the Sean Tillotson Sportsmanship Award, was presented to Michelle Roy of the Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club. Named in memory of Vermont 4-H Shooting Sports member Sean Tillotson, the award recognizes a participant who exemplifies kindness, humility, encouragement, integrity, and the true spirit of 4-H. Fellow participants submit nominations, and the recipient is someone who consistently puts others first, offers encouragement, and demonstrates outstanding character both on and off the range. The award serves as a reminder that while marksmanship is important, sportsmanship and positive leadership are the true hallmarks of the Vermont 4-H Shooting Sports Program.
The Vermont 4-H Shooting Sports Program extends its sincere appreciation to the dozens of certified volunteer instructors, range officers, club leaders and parents whose dedication made the weekend possible. Special thanks are extended to the Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club, the Caledonia Sharp Shooters 4-H Club, and the Caledonia Forest & Stream Club for hosting this year's Jamboree and providing an outstanding venue.
Participants in the 2026 Vermont 4-H Shooting Sports Jamboree finished the weekend not only with medals but with new friendships, stronger leadership skills, increased confidence, and a renewed commitment to safe and responsible shooting sports. While the program celebrates competitive excellence, its greatest achievement is developing young people of strong character who embody the values of the 4-H.
