Sue Bean

Administrative Assistant Emerita

Environmental Program

Areas of Interest:

Office reception and managment, appointment scheduling, student records

Sue Bean retired from her position as our Administrative Assistant in the spring of 2014 after over 29 years of service to the Environmental Program. For many, many years Sue was the front door face and the voice on the phone when you contacted the Environmental Program. She began work at Bittersweet in 1985. Sue managed the front office, scheduled appointments for students with faculty and staff, and kept track of everyone's schedules, the mail, student forms and files, ENVS major plans, the photocopier and supplies, and some financial records.

Sue was a key "go-to person" for all kinds of questions about Environmental Studies at UVM. She supervised many, many work-study students over the years and was a tremendous resource for our faculty, staff and students. Working with students was her favorite part of the job. We appreciated her kind heart and dedication to the Program, her excellent editor's eye, institutional knowledge, and keen memory for our students and alums.

Sue lives in Middlesex, Vermont, has three children and six grandchildren, and was been married to her husband Don for 48 years. Sue retired from her position here to nurse and be with Don full-time during the last two months before he died. Sue enjoys crocheting and doing word puzzles. She also likes going for long walks at home, and working in her flower garden. She is particularly fond of her beautiful roses.
