Brightspace: Customize Your Course with Release Conditions and Intelligent Agents

This workshop provides an overview of strategies for grading student work and providing feedback. We’ll demonstrate tools to provide students feedback (inline grading, audio/video, rubrics),  different grading workflows, including Quick Eval, and a snapshot of Brightspace’s automated feedback tool – Intelligent Agents. Join us in the viewing of a webinar hosted by Robert LeGary and Diana LaRocco as they explore the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guideline, Physical Action. Providing options for physical action isn't simply about technological wizardry; it's about human-centered design. We consider the needs of learners first and then engineer the environment to support them. This might involve incorporating assistive technologies, offering different seating arrangements, providing manipulatives for hands-on learning, or encouraging movement breaks during lessons. To help students navigate and respond within a learning experience, it is essential to continuously reflect on curricular goals, assessments, learning methods, materials, and the environment. Together, we will explore the iterative process of teaching actions deliberately focused on addressing learner variability and creating an inclusive and exciting performance of knowledge.

How can we encourage writers to become increasingly attentive to the key learning goals in each course or department? Drawing on research on multilingual writing development, this workshop highlights effective teaching strategies for supporting multilingual students as learners and writers.

Book Group : Norton Guide to Equity-Minded Teaching

Join us for a book group to read The Norton Guide to Equity-Minded Teaching together. This guide is a hands-on exploration of the empirical research around creating equitable educational outcomes and examples of small and large teaching practices that can occur in classes of all shapes and sizes.  If you’re curious about inclusive or equity-minded teaching and wondering where to start, this book is for you!  Co-authored by a team with varied disciplinary and teaching experience, it has something for everyone.   Our first of three meetings will be on October 9 at noon.
