Letter of Completion for
Modules for Teaching Online

Follow directions on this page to receive a letter of completion

These courses are designed to accommodate the busy lives of UVM instructors – they are entirely self-directed. While there are assignments, there are no submission due dates, so you can progress at your own speed. There are no module end dates, so you can access to these course spaces for as long as you’d like. And, CTL staff are just an email away, so please contact us if any question arise as you work your way through the course. (ctl@uvm.edu)

1. Modules for Teaching Online

This course (MTO) addresses how you can create engaging, inclusive, and meaningful online learning experiences for your students. It has four related, but independent modules. Each module takes between 3–5 hours to complete the readings and viewings. While the focus is online teaching, many of the strategies, practices, and theories for effective teaching that we cover also overlap with face-to-face teaching. Explore the modules as you like, and return to access these resources as often as you choose. The modules titles are:

  • Backward Course Design
  • Designing Student-Friendly Online Courses
  • Engaging Online Assignments
  • Content Considerations for Online Courses

To receive confirmation of completion, submit all assignments within each of the four modules of the course, and complete the anonymous feedback survey. When you are done, let us know by emailing ctl@uvm.edu using the subject line “MTO Completion Request.”

2. Learning Brightspace from the Student Perspective

The purpose of this course is two-fold: to experience a Brightspace course as a student to better understand their experience and to learn about Brightspace tools as they relate to teaching and course design choices. Ultimately, we hope that this course supports your decision-making about how you’d like to use Brightspace.

There are four modules:

  • Welcoming Students to Your Course
  • Brightspace Tools to Keep Students Organized & Support Metacognitive Growth
  • Brightspace Tools for Providing Feedback
  • Brightspace Features for Efficiently Managing Your Course
