Clinical Professor

Dr. Adams is a nationally certified and Vermont licensed audiologist. She teaches the audiology coursework in the department and provides clinical instruction and direct patient care at the Eleanor M. Luse Center for Communication, the university's on-campus non-profit speech, language and hearing clinic. Clinical specialties include auditory assessment, tinnitus management, treatment of hyperacusis and decreased sound tolerance, treatment of hearing loss, and hearing aid fittings utilizing evidence-based practice. As faculty, Dr. Adams co-coordinates the undergraduate advising program for junior and senior Communication Sciences & Disorders students. She mentors undergraduates interested in pursuing an advanced degree in audiology and provides opportunities for audiology clinical internships. Dr. Adams holds the American Board of Audiology’s Certificate in Audiology Precepting (CH-AP) and coordinates the Department’s graduate audiology practicum experience. Alongside her clinical and academic work, she participates in extensive service to the university, her profession, and the community. Dr. Adams is the Chair of UVM’s College of Nursing & Health Sciences Curriculum Planning Committee and is a member of UVM’s Center on Aging Faculty Advisory Committee. Previously, she served on the Vermont Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (VSHA) Executive Board for several years, first as academic programs chair and then as the membership chair. Currently, she is an advisor to the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation audiologist and hearing aid dispenser board. Community outreach and education of other healthcare professionals has been an important focus more recently with a variety of presentations and activities around the state.
