The Landscape Modeling Framework (LMF) is designed as a toolbox for participatory environmental assessment. It is all open source, transparent, and available for modifications and adjustments. We are using the LMF in most of our projects and seek resources to update and enhance it whenever possible.
The two major components of the LMF are:
- The Library of Hydro-Ecological Modules (LHEM) - a collection of Stella models and pieces of c++ code, which are essential to put together landscape models of different levels of complexity
- The Spatial Modeling Environment (SME) - the software engine that is used to link the LHEM modules together, connect them to spatial data and time-series, output and visualize results.

- Web SME - is a web accessible version of SME that is currently under development. When finished it will allow users to put together their own models using the SME installation on one of the high performance clusters at UVM. Projected release date - March, 2005.
- My First SME Model - a step-by-step instructions for putting together a simple SME model.
- The SME User's Guide - the latest version.
