Release Date: 12-13-2006
The University of Vermont's College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) has received a first installment of $10,000 from Pizzagalli Constuction Co. as part of a three-year $30,000 commitment to support faculty excellence.
Peter Bernhardt, President of Pizzagalli Construction Co. and Chair of the CEMS Board of Advisors, presented the award to Dean Domenico Grasso on behalf of the College on Friday, December 8, 2006.
"The College's focus on unity of knowledge — uniting mathematics and science curriculum with humanities and the arts — produces an educated student that is well rounded and equipped to solve problems, particularly in a business environment," said Bernhardt. "We believe that by investing in faculty excellence, we are investing in our future as well."
According to Dean Grasso, faculty from across campus are working together, particularly in the area of complex systems analysis. "These research collaborations align with the vision and mission of CEMS and provide us with the opportunity for national and international impact," said Grasso. "We are truly grateful for Pizzagalli's support for faculty excellence, for CEMS, and the University as a whole."
