2006 Educational Benchmarking commitment to excellence award
Release Date: 09-14-2006
Since 1994, more than one thousand campuses have collaborated with Educational Benchmarking (EBI) in over fifty benchmarking assessments in areas such as Housing, Management Education, Nursing Education, Engineering Education, Teacher Education, College/Student Union, Fraternity/Sorority and First Year Experience.
Results from EBI assessments identify and address critical issues allowing improvement in areas that have the greatest impact on their program's mission. Continuous improvement is driven by the appropriate use of high-quality assessment information on the shortest possible assessment cycle.
Each year EBI reviews participation patterns and identifies institutions who participate on a regular basis. UVM's College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) has received the 2006 Educational Benchmarking Commitment to Excellent Award Silver Institution, in recognition of annual participation in the EPI Engineering Exit Assessment in five of the last six years.
Josie Herrera, Director of Diversity and Special Programs, has managed the relationship and the on-line administration of student exit surveys to test the effectiveness of CEMS engineering programs from the student's point of view since 2001.
"The College's participation in the EBI exit surveys has been instrumental in documenting our performance and has facilitated our ability to put forth a convincing case for re-accreditation to the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology (ABET)," says Herrera.
