UVM's College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) is a new partner of World Community Grid, a not-for-profit endeavor whose mission is to create the largest public computing grid that benefits humanity.

World Community Grid's work is built on the belief that technological innovation combined with visionary scientific research and large-scale volunteerism can change our world for the better. Their success depends on individuals contributing unused computer time — when computers are on, but not in use — to projects that benefit humanity. World Community Grid provides a download of free secure software that, once installed, does the work. No other action is necessary; it's that simple!

World community network

Businesses, associations, foundations and universities have been instrumental in the development and operation of World Community Grid. They also have been encouraging their employees, members, grantees, students and faculty to contribute their unused PC time.

The IBM Corporation, a leader in the creation, development and manufacture of the industry's most advanced information technologies, has donated the hardware, software, technical services and expertise to build the infrastructure for World Community Grid and provides free hosting, maintenance and support. Additional partners include World Community Grid's advisory board — experts in philanthropy, the public sector and academia, who support World Community Grid by providing guidance on research projects to benefit from this donated computer power.

CEMS — One of five new partners

CEMS is one of five new partners who have just signed up. Others include: Opportunity Knocks, North Texas Business for Culture and the Arts, Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce/Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation and the James A. Schlipmann Melanoma Cancer Foundation.

To join

To join, go to www.worldcommunitygrid.org and simply download and install a free, small software program on your computer.

Please invite others to join World Community Grid and donate unused computational power to help solve the problems facing humanity.
