UVM Math Club wins 1st place in MAA Competition

The UVM Math Club team took 1st place in the Mathematical Association of America's (MAA) Northeastern Section Collegiate Mathematics Competition held at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts on Friday, November 21. Robin Wilke, Andrew Guertin and Tenzin Lhakhang were members of the UVM Math Club team that competed against ten other university teams.
Members of the UVM Math Club will next compete in the William Lowell Putnam Competition, an annual student math competition sponsored by the MAA. More than 2000 students from colleges and universities in the United States and Canada participate in this contest which is held simultaneously at participating universities, including UVM. This year's competition will take place on Saturday, December 6, at 10:00 am.
"Student participants truly benefit from this experience," says Tom Rogers, UVM Math Club faculty advisor and lecturer for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics within UVM's College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS). "The William Lowell Putnam Competition is one of the most prestigious mathematical contests in the country."
The UVM Math Club promotes and encourages the study of the mathematical sciences and meets regularly.
