The Governor's Institutes of Vermont (GIV) is celebrating its 25th year offering high school students extensive one- to two-week educational experiences that allow them to explore many exciting fields and a variety of topics including:

• Arts, June 22 - July 6, 2008: Dance, choreography, music, performance, composition, painting, drawing, graphics, sculpture, writing, and theater. [ more ]
• Asian Cultures, June 22 - 28, 2008: Chinese and Japanese cultures, customs and issues, with introductions to other Asian cultures. [ more ]
• Current Issues & Youth Activism, June 25 - July 6, 2008: Issues explored include livable wages, child labor, HIV/AIDS, terrorism, Iraq, immigration, poverty, school quality, human trafficking, landmines, separation of church and state, gender, and civil liberties. [ more ]
• Engineering, June 28 - July 5, 2008: Civil, electrical, mechanical and aeronautical engineering, biomass fuel alternatives, wind energy, and robotics. [ more ]
• Information Technology, June 21 - 29, 2008: Web strategy and design, Photoshop, electronic game design, digital video, HTML, and object-oriented programming. [ more ]
• Mathematics, June 22 - 27, 2008: Mathematics, probability, statistics, fair division and fair apportionment, and problem solving in geometry and enumeration. [ more ]
• Science & Technology, June 29 - July 6, 2008: Soils, geology, botany, landscape analysis, hydrology, and water chemistry. [ more ]

Held on Vermont college campuses, the Institutes emphasize experiential learning and subsequent community involvement for approximately 400 Vermont high school students, as well as out-of-state and international students attending the Engineering Institute.

The GIV will celebrate its 25th year during the Arts Institute on June 28 in the Fine Arts Center at Castleton State College from 4 to 7 pm.
